A+ Restaurant Initiative

The Initiative at a Glance

  1. Restaurants that choose to participate in the program will complete a checklist of operational assurances as outlined in the restaurant reopening guidelines and participate in a required free online training session provided by the Carter/Love County Health Department.
  2. Restaurants that successfully complete the checklist and sign a commitment to their employees and customers will earn the endorsement of the program which can be displayed at the business.
  3. The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce in consultation with Carter/Love County Health Department will oversee this consumer-driven program by providing patrons with the opportunity to share their experience, both positive and negative, through a short online survey. This form will be used to provide feedback if a restaurant not honoring its commitment or to let us know how well they are doing.

The Commitment

Restaurants must agree to the following priorities to protect their employees and customers and demonstrate leadership in safe sanitation practices with all employees on every shift.

Complete the ServSafe Reopening Guidance: COVID:19 Precautions

This 13-minute webinar course is available for free on the ServSafe website and a Certificate of completion is available at the end of the course.
The ServeSafe Take-Out and the ServSafe Delivery training videos are optional but highly encouraged if they are applicable to your operation.

Adhere to the minimum standards of the CDC's Considerations for Restaurants and Bars

Restaurants and bars may consider implementing several strategies to encourage behaviors that reduce the spread of COVID-19 among employees and customers.

  • Staying Home When Appropriate - Actively encourage employees who are sick or have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 to stay home.
  • Cloth Face Coverings - Require the use of cloth face coverings among all staff, as feasible. Face coverings are most essential in times when physical distancing is difficult. Information should be provided to staff on proper use, removal, and washing of cloth face coverings
  • Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette - Require frequent employee handwashing (e.g. before, during, and after preparing food; after touching garbage) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and increase monitoring to ensure adherence.
  • Adequate Supplies - Ensure adequate supply of soap, hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol, paper towels, tissues, disinfectant wipes, cloth face coverings, and no-touch/foot pedal trash cans.
  • Signs and Messages - Post signs in highly visible locations (e.g. at entrances, in restrooms) that promote everyday protective measures and describes how to stop the spread of germs such as by properly washing hands and properly wearing a cloth face covering.
  • Find free CDC print resources at the bar and restaurant page and the Chamber of Commerce websites.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection - Clean and disinfect frequently touch surfaces (e.g. door handles, cash registers, workstations, sink handles, bathroom stalls) at least daily, or as much as possible and as required by food safety requirements. Clean shared objects (e.g. payment terminals, tables, counter tops/bars, receipt trays, condiment holders) between each use.
