Superintendent's Story
Reading is a top priority at Springer. All elementary teachers kindergarten through the third grade have a Masters degree in reading. Our regular education students in the elementary school scored near the top in state mandated reading scores in comparison to all other schools in the state of Oklahoma! In addition to the regular classroom teachers Springer Elementary School employs three additional certified reading specialists for small group reading instruction. Reading success in the early grades plays a critical role in our students' future learning.
Technology plays an integral role in our students' success. Springer Schools has a computer lab for both elementary and secondary students. Computers are also in each classroom for student use in all grades.
District wide students are offered a safe environment, small class size, a consistent discipline policy, and an abundance of individual attention. The district is comprised of outstanding students and a caring and professional staff. The staff is comprised of the areas BEST teachers and is dedicated to serve the students, parents, and patrons of Springer. The staff holds the belief all students can and will learn. The district consists of pre-k through twelfth grade and is comprised of approximately two-hundred students. Springer Schools has a five member board which is committed to providing a quality education for our students!
Springer Elementary Principal's Story
Springer Elementary School is proud of their students' achievements in reading. State mandated test scores for Springer Elementary regular education students are near the top in the state. There are seven certified reading specialists to serve our elementary students. In grades K-6 our students have a minimum of ninety minutes of reading instruction each day.
Springer Schools meets the needs of our students in a variety of ways. Free breakfast for all students, after school tutoring by certified staff, small class sizes, individual instruction, and positive caring teachers are important aspects of our school. Springer Schools also offers a free summer school program for students in first through the eighth grades. During summer school students are taught math, reading, fine arts, and physical education. Students also take weekly field trips to various places of interest. Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge during the summer school session. Transportation is provided during summer school to encourage enrollment and assist the parents.
In August the city of Springer donated $25,000 to purchase new playground equipment for the students in the elementary school. The city and school partner together to invest in their most important resource – the children of Springer!
Springer High School Principal's Story
Springer High School promotes a safe orderly environment in which all students can achieve. Discipline is a positive aspect of our school and is the cornerstone for our success allowing teachers to teach and students to learn! All high school students are treated fairly, consistently, and with respect.
Springer High School promotes parental involvement. Progress reports are sent home every three weeks to keep parents apprised of academic progress. Tutoring is available after school by certified teachers. A web based internet program is accessible to parents to allow them the opportunity to access their child's grades, attendance, and lessons. School staff is working with parents of children in the 8th, 9th, and 10th grades to assist them in enrolling in Oklahoma's Promise (OHLAP) of free college tuition. Staff members will assist in this process by scheduling appointments at school or home with parents. Springer high school has some of the best teachers in the area and staff goes the extra mile to work with and serve the parents and students in the district.
High school students are given a choice of either a hot or cold free nutritious breakfast at the conclusion of first hour. Since the beginning of the all-school free breakfast program in October student moral and academic achievements have increased.
