The temperatures don’t quite show it yet, but Summer in Southern Oklahoma in on its way out the door and Fall is just around the corner with tons of activities for everyone. Fall features some of the best opportunities of the year to get out and experience what Ardmore has to offer.
Ardmore is truly a wonderful autumn destination with plenty of events and activities to look forward to. And, the cooler weather means it’s a great time to head downtown and take part in some fun and tasty events! Returning this year, Ardmore Main Street Authority will host the Depot District Wine Walk October 10th from 5:30-9:00pm. The price of admission will include tastings from multiple wineries that will set up shop for the evening. Plus be sure stop in and visit local merchants that will remain open for the event. Of course, it wouldn’t be fall without AMSA’s annual fundraiser, “Let’s Get Souped!” featuring dozens of delicious soups at Heritage Hall this October 22nd from 5:00-7:00pm. Then on Halloween, come downtown and take part in the traditional Trick or Treat on Ardmore’s Main Street, providing a safe environment for kids to trick or treat.
Also, come check out Profiles and Perspectives series present by the Noble Research Institute and The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. Taking place at the Ardmore Convention Center, this series started in 1998 with the purpose providing the southern Oklahoma community with interesting and thought-provoking lectures that may not otherwise be available to the region; All at no cost to the public. This season features Fred Provenza, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Behavioral Ecology at Utah State University Department of Wildland Resources discussing the connections between plants, animals and our lives in Mending Broken Linkages: Soil, Plants, Herbivores, and Humans, November 5th.
This season brings out some of the best weather and scenery of the entire year, so take advantage of the wonderful spaces and parks our area has to offer. Also check out the fantastic events at Hardy Murphy Coliseum happening like the Ardmore Barrel Futurity. This is a great annual event and community mainstay that features an incredible field of regional and local participants in both Futurity and Derby competitions. Come see it this September 26th-29th.
Lastly, don’t forget to celebrate the fall season at our local seasonal attractions! Take the family just south of town and explore the fun activities at the Brown Ranch Hay Maze. Also visit the Pumpkin Patch at Woodbine Farms to find the perfect pumpkin for your porch.
